Winter can be a difficult time for birds, but with a little creativity and a few simple ingredients, you can create a seed bell to offer them a warm feast. Here’s how to make a natural seed bell to attract birds to your garden.
Materials needed:
- Vegan fat orpeanut butter
- Birdseed(mixture of various seeds)
- Natural rope or twine
- Silicone moldsor improvised molds (such as bell-shaped or other shaped cookie cutters)
Instructions :
1. Melt the Fat:
- In a saucepan over low heat, melt the lard or vegan fat. Make sure not to let it boil.
2. Add the seeds:
- Once the fat has melted, remove it from the heat and add a generous amount of birdseed. Stir well to ensure the seeds are thoroughly coated.
3. Fill the molds:
- Place your molds on a flat surface and pour the seed mixture into each mold. Be sure to gently press down to eliminate any air bubbles.
4. Insert the rope:
- Before the grease hardens completely, insert a rope or natural twine into each mold. Make sure to leave enough rope at one end to hang the bell.
5. Let it harden:
- Place the molds in the refrigerator for a few hours, or until the fat has completely hardened.
6. Unmold and hang:
- Once the bells are firm, carefully remove them from the molds. Attach them to tree branches or fences in your garden.
7. Watch the Birds Enjoy Their Feast:
- Settle comfortably by the window with your family and watch the birds come to enjoy this delicious treat.
This simple and fun activity requires only a few ingredients and offers a perfect opportunity to spend quality time with family while caring for our feathered friends. It also provides birds with a valuable food source during the winter months. Enjoy this moment of observation and be proud to contribute to the well-being of local wildlife.
