Because your baby’s skin deserves the purest
Babies’ skin is thin, permeable, and still developing.
Commercial products often contain unnecessary or irritating substances.
Here’s a simple list to help you identify ingredients to avoid and make gentler, more natural, and safer choices.
1. Synthetic perfumes
Things to watch out for: Perfume, Fragrance, Aroma
- Often composed of chemical mixtures.
- They can cause irritation, allergic reactions, and disrupt the skin’s natural flora.
→ Choose products without added fragrance or with natural hydrosols .
2. Aggressive sulfates
To watch out for: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
- Foaming agents that are irritating to the skin and scalp.
- They dry out babies’ delicate skin.
→ Opt for cleansers based on gentle, plant-derived surfactants (coco-glucoside, decyl glucoside, etc.).
3. Controversial Conservatives
To watch out for: Phenoxyethanol, Parabens (methyl-, propyl-…)
- Potential endocrine disruptors.
- They can penetrate the skin barrier and accumulate.
→ Look for labels guaranteeing they are free of parabens and phenoxyethanol .
4. Mineral oils and silicones
To watch: Paraffinum Liquidum, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Dimethicone
- Derived from petrochemicals, they form an occlusive film that prevents the skin from breathing.
→ Opt for organic vegetable oils (sweet almond, jojoba, coconut, apricot kernel, etc.).
5. Dyes and bleaching agents
To watch out for: CI + number, Titanium Dioxide (in toothpastes)
- Of no cosmetic value.
- They can cause allergic reactions or be harmful in the long term.
→ Opt for products without added coloring and simple, safe toothpastes .
6. PEG, PPG and petrochemical derivatives
To watch out for: * PEG- , *PPG- , Polysorbate-
- They make the texture softer, but weaken the skin barrier.
→ Look for the “PEG- and PPG-free” label.
7. Denatured alcohol
To watch out for: Alcohol Denat.
- Present in some lotions or wipes.
- It dries out and irritates the skin.
→ If you want a disinfectant product, opt for gentle hydrosols (lavender, chamomile, orange blossom).
8. Other ingredients for limited use
Use only under professional advice:
- Camphor, menthol, strong essential oils (eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary) : too powerful for babies.
- Acids (salicylic, glycolic) : to be avoided in infant creams.
To help you spot the right products
Always look for these statements on packaging:
- Fragrance-free,
- Hypoallergenic,
- Dermatologically tested,
- Recognized organic label (Ecocert, Cosmos Organic, Natrue, Slow Cosmétique),
- Paraben-free / Sulfate-free / Phenoxyethanol-free1

A brief but essential reminder
Your baby’s skin doesn’t need to be “perfumed” to be clean.
Plain water, a few simple plant oils, and a natural cream are more than enough to care for it tenderly.
Tip : Print this sheet and slip it into your diaper bag or keep it on your phone to refer to while shopping. You can also share it with other moms who want to care for their baby gently.
